In today's increasingly globalized workforce, managing employees across different countries and attracting top talent from around the world present significant challenges for businesses. The aim was to create a platform that simplifies these complexities and empowers organizations to navigate international HR processes with ease. During my internship at a startup specializing in international HR solutions, I collaborated with a talented team to design a platform that enables seamless global employee management and talent acquisition. This project is about providing businesses with the tools they need to succeed in a global landscape while fostering efficient, user-friendly solutions for their workforce management needs.
The problem
Managing employees or hiring internationally can be a complex and resource-intensive process for business owners. From compliance with labor laws to handling payroll and employee benefits, these challenges often deter businesses from expanding globally or hiring talent efficiently.
The goal
The platform enables business owners to:
-
Onboard and manage employees seamlessly.
-
Attract new talent through a user-friendly interface.
-
Stay compliant with international labor regulations.
RESEARCH
Competitive Analysis
To ensure the platform addressed real user needs, we began with a feature comparison chart of existing EOR solutions.
The comparison highlights the strengths and limitations of Remote.com, Deel.com, and Justworks.com as EOR platforms. Remote.com and Deel.com excel in global reach, offering comprehensive solutions for payroll, tax compliance, and localized employment contracts across 150+ countries. They also provide strong support for equity management and employee benefits, making them ideal for businesses expanding internationally. Justworks.com, while limited to the U.S., delivers robust HR and benefits management tailored to domestic needs, with a simpler interface for U.S.-focused businesses. However, the lack of international coverage and equity management support in Justworks reveals opportunities for platforms targeting global scalability.

The analysis helped uncover industry trends, user pain points, and opportunities for differentiation. The opportunities that were identified were:
-
Simplified navigation and workflows tailored for small and medium enterprises.
-
Enhanced transparency in pricing and service offerings.
-
A hiring process that integrates directly with talent acquisition features.
IDEATION
Information Architecture
To build a logical and intuitive structure for the platform, we designed an information architecture focusing on the core user tasks:
-
For employers: Managing employees, tracking compliance, and handling payroll.
-
For job seekers: Discovering job opportunities and applying with ease.
The IA emphasizes simplicity by breaking the platform into key sections such as "Dashboard," "Employee Management," and "Services" Each section supports specific user goals, ensuring a smooth navigation experience.

User flows
The user flows were crafted for each section to visualize how users would interact with the platform from start to finish. A primary flow, for example, outlines the process for a business owner to:
-
Sign up and complete their profile.
-
Add and onboard employees.
-
Manage payroll and compliance tasks effortlessly.
By mapping out these steps, we ensured a logical progression that minimizes friction and reduces time spent on repetitive tasks.

DESIGN
Low fidelity wireframes
To kick off the design process, we created low-fidelity wireframes that focused on the basic structure and layout of the platform. These wireframes were intentionally minimal to prioritize functionality and user flow.

Mid fidelity wireframes
Building upon the feedback received from the low-fidelity wireframes, we developed mid-fidelity wireframes to add more detail and functionality. These wireframes included refined layouts, placeholder text, and basic interactions to illustrate how users would navigate the platform. The mid-fidelity stage helped us identify usability improvements, such as optimizing dashboard navigation and simplifying talent search filters.

High-Fidelity Wireframes
The high-fidelity wireframes marked the final design iteration before prototyping. These included polished visuals, branding elements, and detailed interactions to provide a realistic representation of the platform. We incorporated feedback from both stakeholders and usability testing sessions to refine the design.

FINAL TAKEAWAYS
Learnings
This project was an invaluable learning experience, as it required balancing user needs with business objectives in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment. One of the main challenges was creating an intuitive user flow for a platform with complex functionalities, which involved multiple rounds of iteration and feedback from stakeholders.
Key takeaways from this experience included the importance of clear communication with cross-functional teams and the value of iterative design to refine solutions. Overall, this project reinforced my adaptability and problem-solving skills, and it gave me a deeper appreciation for designing solutions that empower users to succeed in their goals.
