Walletgyde

fintech app UI revamp

Date

October - December 2024

Role

UX Design, UI Design, Product promotion

Walletgyde is a financial technology company that focuses on providing personalized financial guidance and tools to help users achieve their financial goals. The platform typically offers services such as budgeting, savings recommendations, debt management, and financial planning tailored to individual needs. As an early-stage startup in the process of securing funding, Walletgyde is actively engaging with stakeholders and investors to support its growth. During my internship, I redesigned the platform’s user interface, contributing to a 15% increase in user engagement as the company actively promoted the product.

The problem

The original screens were outdated, lacking the modern aesthetics and functionality users expect from a fintech application, and were created without a cohesive style guide. The challenge was to revamp the platform while preserving the company's visual identity.

The goal

The goal was to enhance the visual appeal, improve user experience, and ensure that the new design adhered to best practices in UI/UX design. By focusing on clean, intuitive layouts and incorporating contemporary design trends, I aimed to create a more engaging and user-friendly interface.

Design Process

I began the design process by conducting extensive research to analyze current fintech apps and gather inspiration from their modern design practices. Through this research, I identified several key areas where the Walletgyde interface was falling short.

  • The interface lacked a clear visual hierarchy in its typography, making it difficult for users to navigate and prioritize information.

  • It did not adhere to the 60-30-10 rule, which is essential for creating a balanced color scheme.

  • The platform employed outdated UI practices, such as placing the logo in the header and using heavy drop shadows for cards, which gave the interface a dated appearance.

  • The use of icons was inconsistent, leading to a fragmented user experience.

No visual hierarchy in typography

These insights guided the different stages of the design process as I worked to modernize and harmonize Walletgyde’s UI while maintaining its brand identity.

During the redesign, I aimed to make the product resemble a polished, modern application rather than a website. To achieve this, I removed the header images present on every screen, which gave the interface a web-like appearance. I ensured consistency in the icons by standardizing their size and color across all screens. To create a softer, more inviting look, I added subtle fillets to the card edges and rounded the buttons. Throughout the process, I adhered to the brand's color palette and kept the target audience in mind, ensuring the design catered to their needs and preferences.

Product Demo videos

Additionally, I leveraged generative AI tools to create engaging product demo videos. These videos effectively showcased the platform's features and benefits, helping to promote Walletgyde on YouTube and social media platforms. This approach not only drove user interest but also significantly boosted the platform's brand visibility, enhancing its reach and appeal in the competitive fintech market.

Reflection

Redesigning Walletgyde’s UI was a valuable opportunity to apply user-centered design principles in a real-world fintech product. By focusing on visual consistency, usability, and industry best practices, I helped enhance the platform’s overall user experience. The 15% increase in user engagement highlighted the impact of a cohesive design strategy in driving brand visibility. This project deepened my understanding of how thoughtful design decisions can directly influence both user behavior and business growth, and further solidified my ability to create meaningful digital experiences.
